NZ’s allied health professionals can experience a varied and diverse career at APM.

Catherine McIntosh has enjoyed a variety of roles and opportunities at APM since she joined over nine years ago as a physiotherapist.

She worked with vocational rehabilitation patients, supporting their return-to-work programs.

“I’d been out of the physiotherapy workforce for a number of years and I’m grateful to APM for offering me a chance to return to work myself and reconnect with my profession” Catherine said.

“The well-established networks within APM, and its policies and processes to help its people succeed helped me make my return to physiotherapy confidently, and competently.”

Able to quickly re-establish herself in clinical practice, Catherine felt she was ready for more responsibilities and took on a leadership role, managing a team of allied health professionals in Tauranga, in the Bay of Plenty area.

More recently, and with APM’s support, Catherine completed a Master of Health Practice, which compliments her next role as National Learning and Development Manager for APM in New Zealand.

“There are so many pathways for growth with APM in New Zealand. Our business continues to expand across the country and there are opportunities to move up to leadership positions, or even explore other parts of the business – be it in the corporate area or our Work Assist business helping job seekers find employment."

Catherine is now responsible for coordinating APM’s professional development program in New Zealand, with a focus on continual improvement.

“APM really values that I’m able to bring a clinical component to my current role and they support me in maintaining my Practicing Certificate.

"Being a physio myself helps give me greater insight into what our allied health professionals and client facing teams need to succeed.

"In this role, my impact can be bigger and broader than it’s ever been, and I like to say that ‘I help others to help others to help others’ – that’s the difference I can make, and I know it means something to a lot of people.”

Catherine is based on the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island and acknowledges APM’s willingness for national roles to be conducted from across the country.

Proximity to the headquarters in Auckland is not a pre-requisite to take on a new role, allowing for greater job opportunities and flexibility.
