Building cultural capability and confidence

We are committed to being responsive to Māori as tangata whenua and recognising the Treaty of Waitangi as New Zealand's founding document.

Using the Māori principles of Manaakitanga, Rangatiratanga, Kotahitanga, Whānaungatanga, Wairuatanga, and Te Reo Māori, our people are empowered to work in a way that is culturally responsive and mana-enhancing. 

These principles complement APM's I CREATE values and support our purpose of enabling better lives.

We have an established Tai Tikanga Māori team that drives a comprehensive cultural programme that provides opportunities that grow the cultural capability, confidence, and competence of all APM employees, through exposure to our Indigenous knowledge and values. This includes:

Woven, Pattern, Rug, Weaving

- Quarterly mihi whakatau (welcoming ceremony) for new starters
- Regular cultural hui to build awareness of Māori culture
- Kaupapa (topic) of the week sessions that provide engagement and interaction opportunities to learn
   or practice te reo Māori (the Māori language)
- APM-wide karakia (affirmations) to start and finish our working week
 

Nurturing the future to honour our culture

APM is proud to foster a thriving and flourishing Māori and Pasifika allied health workforce, and we recognise the importance of providing a supportive, nurturing, and culturally enriching experience for all our team members.
